MintGate is a platform that allows users to create new NFTs that can include unlockable content or generate gated links for token holders.
Unlockable content is media that requires proven ownership of an NFT or social token in order to gain access.
The platform also allows users to sell and buy NFTs using ETH. NFTs minted through MintGate are also available on Rarible.
MintGate has just released a new product, which allows users to create their own branded NFT store, with MintGate’s technology powering the backend.
There are a few web3 solutions that offer token gating through different mechanisms - Guild for Discord, Orca for working groups and MintGate for exclusive content.
Creators are always searching for ways to give their fans more value and differentiate their work from their competition. MintGate allows creators to secure their content so that it’s only accessible to holders of certain NFTs or tokens.
Currently, creating tokens that allow access to gated content requires technical knowledge. MintGate allows non-technical users to do this.
Their white-label NFT product means that anyone can create an NFT store, no matter their level of technical expertise. This approach allows users to avoid fees from platforms like OpenSea, gives more flexibility around user experience and more control over their brand.
Creating an NFT with unlockable content requires a web link to the audio or video file to be used, and the JPEG, PNG or GIF file to be minted as the NFT. The user sets the price in ETH and selects the royalties to be earned upon each resale.
Creating token-gated links can be done using existing NFTs, social tokens, and cryptocurrencies. Users can select the link to the web content they want to gate and then add in important information (blockchain, token type, contract address, amount of tokens required, etc.)
For DAOs, there are several interesting use cases, such as creating links to meetings, articles or resources only available to members who hold at least a certain number of tokens. If putting on physical meetups, DAOs could create a QR Code Event Ticket tied to an NFT or social token. This QR code automatically changes every few seconds, preventing a token holder from screenshotting it to share with those who don’t own a token.
Token-gating works no matter the blockchain the token was created on.
MintGate’s white label NFT storefront product can be used by non-technical people, broadening the potential userbase of web3 technology.
‘Lazy minting’ means zero gas fees for creating NFTs, which is a welcome relief in today’s high gas environment.
Currently, customizations to the white label NFT storefront are limited to basics like theme colors, photos, names and descriptions. However, MintGate seems receptive to adding greater customizability over time.
Ask your community how they’d like to use the Gated Tokens. Getting feedback on preferred use cases before implementation will prevent DAO members who lack the required number of tokens from feeling left out.
The process for creating an NFT or Gated Token is relatively straightforward, so head over to MintGate to test it out.
